Foxes wait on Morgan
WES MORGAN will be given until the last minute to prove he is fit to face Atletico Madrid tonight.
The Leicester skipper, left, has missed the last six games with a back injury, but with fellow central defender Robert Huth suspended for the Champions League quarter-final second leg, manager Craig Shakespeare is desperate for Morgan’s return. “He’s come through three training sessions and we’ll make a decision as late as we possibly can,” said Shakespeare.
“I’m really pleased with the way Wes has progressed so far. My eyes tell me I should go with the way he has gone in training.”
The Foxes trail 1-0 after conceding a controversial penalty, awarded despite Marc Albrighton’s
shove on Antoine Griezmann taking place outside the area.
The Foxes’ sports scientist Tom Joel was also charged by UEFA after being sent off for standing inside the Madrid technical area while handing water out to players.
Atletico coach Diego Simeone and his staff were playing up on the touchline in a bid to influence the officials, and Shakespeare, above, has told his players to keep their cool tonight no matter what the provocation.
“I’m not allowed to comment on referees,” he said. “The players have to be smart.
“We can’t worry about the opposition bench. We have to be mindful and keep our own house in order.
“The penalty decision is not gnawing away at me. The last thing the players need is me harping on about it. The referee made his decision – albeit the wrong one.
“But we’ve got the right players to keep cool heads.”
Atletico are 10-1 on to go through to the semi-finals, but Shakespeare said: “My players look sharp and ready to go. The bookies have got it wrong before so let’s hope they’ve got it wrong again.
“We know we start as underdogs but we’re quite comfortable with that. Let’s hope we can earn our supporters a few bob and get through.”
