PICKS OF THE DAY

-

Politics: Ivanka Trump: America’s Real First Lady?, 9pm, C4

In his opening months as US president, Donald Trump has shown a huge amount of trust and faith in his eldest daughter, Ivanka (left, with her father). She has constantly been by his side and has a role within the White House alongside her husband, Jared Kushner. In this programme, Matt Frei travels to America to find out why President Trump has so much belief in his daughter and examines the extent of her influence.

Documentary: The Day The Dinosaurs Died, 9pm, BBC2

Could it be that an asteroid struck the earth 66 million years ago and set in motion a chain of events which led to the demise of the dinosaurs? Hopefully, we’re about to find out. Alice Roberts joins Dr Kenneth Lacovara (both above) to discover if the effects could have wiped out dinosaurs across the world almost immediately. Ben Garrod joins a drilling expedition into the exact spot in the Gulf of Mexico that was the point of impact.

Drama: Little Boy Blue, 9pm, ITV

Few programmes in recent times have provoked such a reaction from the viewing public as this one has. Social media is awash with posts about it, colleagues are discussing it at work and it is receiving coverage across the media. The tragic tale reaches an end tonight and Sean Mercer and his associates are tried for their roles in the killing of Rhys but the verdict fails to bring closure for the beleaguered Melanie and Steve. Things are not easy for Detective Superintendent Kelly (Stephen Graham, left) either. He is left with a tough decision to make after an unexpected setback occurs. Sinead Keenan and Brían F O’Byrne are again brilliant in the challenging roles of Rhys Jones’ parents.

Health: Doctor In The House, 9pm, BBC1

Dr Rangan Chatterjee is once again moving himself in to people’s homes to gain a better understanding of how Britons look after themselves. In the first of four episodes, he moves in with the Hughes family (above) to try to find out why mum Gemma is suffering cluster headaches up to 10 times a day which are causing the family problems. Rangan also visits Gary Farmer, who could need a wheelchair.

Comedy: The Fake News Show, 8.30pm, C4

Continuing the political theme this evening, there is a welcome return for this show to the Channel 4 listings. Stephen Mangan (right) hosts the comedy panel show in which team captains Katherine Ryan and Richard Osman are joined by special guests. In a new political era which seems set to be dominated by Trumpisms, the whole point of the show is for teams to determine the truth being hidden by fake news.
