Wenger: Conte got an easy ride

- Tony Paskin

ARSENE WENGER has warned champions Chelsea they will not have it so easy next time around. Antonio Conte’s men wrapped up the title with two games to spare and only Arsenal can stop them making it a Double. But Wenger has told his rival he has been living on Easy Street this season. Arsenal beat Stoke at a stroll apart from a frantic few minutes in the second half and

are desperately trying to claw their way into the top four.

An Olivier Giroud brace plus goals from Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez allowed them to cruise to victory.

Apart from temporary wobbles when Peter Crouch scored with his hand, it was all relatively easy.

Wenger congratulated Chelsea on finishing top of the pile then issued a warning based on two unbroken decades of Champions League football.

“In the last two seasons the team that won the league hasn’t played in Europe that season,” he said.

“I congratulate Chelsea on what they’ve done but you see when they play in Europe it’ll be a different story.

“I feel that in Spain, Real Madrid can win games by playing at a lower percentage of the maximum. Bayern is similar – they dominate the German championship.”

Tomorrow night Arsenal tackle Sunderland as they again chase a place Champions League.

Defender Rob Holding said: “There’s a feeling that we can do it. The confidence has been there the last few games so we’ve just got to keep the momentum going.”

It is all adding up to a disappointing end to the season for Stoke, and striker Saido Berahino said the players are feeling it.

“We let ourselves down really. We managed to get one back and were on top for a bit but they caught us with a sucker punch and we couldn’t recover,” he said. in the
