I had a great dream... let’s make it reality

- Ross Heppenstall

HOME-TOWN boy Scott Taylor believes Hull FC will enter the realms of greatness if they retain the Challenge Cup against Wigan Warriors tomorrow.

The England prop, who is enjoying another outstanding campaign, played for Wigan when they beat Hull in the 2013 final at Wembley.

He began his career at bitter rivals Hull KR but joined the Black and Whites at the start of last season and has not looked back since.

Taylor’s debut campaign with Lee Radford’s side saw him help Hull lift the Challenge Cup – for the first time at Wembley Stadium – with a 12-10 victory over Warrington Wolves 12 months ago.

Now they stand on the verge of winning the famous trophy again and Taylor said: “It would be absolutely massive to win it again because it’s something Hull have never done before.

“A lot of teams win the Challenge Cup but not many manage to retain it. Only truly great sides achieve that – and we have a chance to write ourselves into the history books.

“It’s an opportunity we don’t want to miss out on.

“There are less nerves this time around because of what we did last year but there is also more pressure now.”

Taylor says he was the “biggest Hull FC fan ever” during his childhood and admits he is now living his dream.

The 26-year-old added: “I signed for Hull because I wanted to win at Wembley in a Challenge Cup final – and when I did it last year it was the best feeling ever.

“Playing for Rovers was great and they taught me a lot but when I went to Wigan, I experienced winning trophies and won the Challenge Cup and Grand Final in my first season there.

“Being a Hull lad, I wanted to do that with my boyhood club and it means the world to me to be able to play for them now and experience success.

“It’s something I grew up dreaming about.”

Taylor coaches men’s amateur club Beverley and he will be supported by his players at Wembley tomorrow.

He said: “I absolutely love coaching and Radders (Hull coach Lee Radford) has played for me a couple of times.

“All my players will all be at Wembley this weekend and are coming down on a coach. A few of the lads are Hull KR fans but a lot of them are Hull FC fans. I can tell they respect me and we’ve got a great little set-up.”
