MAURICIO POCHETTINO revealed he has already welcomed Tottenham’s new record signing Davinson Sanchez to the Premier League – by sending him to the floor in training.

The Colombian defender has joined for £42million with Spurs hoping for clearance for him to face Burnley tomorrow.

Just like Pochettino as a player, Sanchez, 21, learned his trade in South America before heading to Europe.

The Spurs boss has no doubts the former Ajax centre-back will handle the rigours and physical nature of the English league.

Just in case, Pochettino dished out some roughhouse treatment as part of the preparation.

Pochettino said: “He has all the characteristics for success here. I challenged him in training this week.

“We were playing a box and he was inside and the ball was in the air and me, bam, and he falls, I’ve got the ball!

“We always try to find out the profile of the person as one for the future and I think it was a massive opportunity when we knew about the possibility of signing him.

“It’s a massive opportunity because we believe he will be one of the best centre-backs in the world in the future. That’s why we made the effort to sign him.”

Burnley manager Sean Dyche believes Kieran Trippier has all the talent needed to make it as a regular with Tottenham and England.

Trippier is aiming to establish himself as Spurs’ regular right-back following Kyle Walker’s move to Manchester City.

Dyche, the manager who sold him to Spurs, said: “The thing about Tripps is that he has a real desire to be playing all the time.

“Sometimes players across the board in this profession are questioned for that. Fans say ‘they’re just happy to pick up the money’, but I can assure you he’s not.”
