£3,000 for Jimi’s note to a Foxy Lady
A WOMAN who received a love letter from Jimi Hendrix at a 1967 concert is selling the note at auction for an estimated £3,000.
Mother-of-two Anthea Connell, 69, caught the eye of the American rock legend when she was 19.
She was with her then boyfriend Eddie Cooke, whose Sons And Lovers band were supporting Jimi at Boston Gliderdrome in Lincolnshire.
Anthea, a retired student support services worker, of West Bridgford, Nottingham, recalled: “I was sitting quietly on my own when Jimi walked on to the stage just in front of me. I was completely star-struck. I can’t even remember what we said.
“I must have mumbled something but have no recollection of it. I was awestruck. Jimi Hendrix was an icon.
“He turned to his band members on the stage and asked one of the guys to give him something to write on.
“He came back with a guitar strings packet and proceeded to write me this wonderful message.
“I think it was because I was the only girl in the ballroom at the time. But I think Eddie was a bit jealous.” The note reads: “To Anthea. Love and kisses to you forever. I wish I could really talk to you. Stay sweet. Jimi Hendrix.”
After 50 years stored in a chocolate box, it is being sold by Hansons auctioneers in Etwall, Derbyshire, on October 23.
