Top transgender model is sacked after ‘all whites are racist’ tirade

- By Gillian Crawley

A TRANSGENDER model billed as “the face of modern diversity” has been sacked after branding all white people racist.

Munroe Bergdorf, 29, whose father is Jamaican, appeared in L’Oreal’s All Worth It campaign with pop star Cheryl Cole and TV presenter Katie Piper.

Born a boy called Ian, she is also a DJ and transgender activist.

She began living as a woman at 18 and started taking female hormones four years ago.

When she heard she’d got the L’Oreal job, she said: “I couldn’t believe it. But I think it’s great – as women we’re all so varied and L’Oreal are allowing more women to see themselves represented.”

Shortly afterwards the British model raged in a Facebook post: “I don’t have the energy to talk about the racial violence of white people any more.

“Yes ALL white people. Because most of you don’t even realise or refuse to acknowledge that your existence, privilege and success as a race is built on the backs, blood and death of people of colour.

“Your entire existence is drenched in racism. Come see me when you realise that racism isn’t learned, it’s inherited and consciously or unconsciously passed down through privilege.

“Once white people begin to admit that their race is the most violent and oppressive force of nature on Earth, then we can talk.”

The post was later deleted and the London-based model claimed she made the remarks in response to the violence involving white supremacists in Charlottesville, Virginia, USA.

Attempting to clarify her position, she wrote: “When I stated that ‘all white people are racist’ I was addressing that fact that western society as a whole is a system rooted in white supremacy – designed to benefit, prioritise and protect white people before anyone of any other race.

“Unknowingly, white people are socialised to be racist from birth onwards. No one is born racist.”

In a statement yesterday, L’Oreal said: “We support diversity and tolerance towards all people, irrespective of their race, background, gender and religion. We believe that the recent comments by Munroe Bergdorf are at odds with those values.”
