No money had been paid to Murray but the cost to taxpayers of hiring lawyers and doctors during the fraud investigation was said to be “substantial”.
Judge Martin Rudland told her: “This is a very unfortunate chapter in your life and a foolish enterprise. I suspect there was a minor injury caused by a slight event at work involving your back. Yet you went to work and gave rise to a claim. You were always going to be found out.”
Investigations began when the TV show was aired after Aviva’s lawyers offered an out-of-court settlement of £6,500.
If she had taken the initial offer, the cleaner may have got away with her scam. But because she fought for nearly three times that amount, investigators were able to catch her out.
Criticising her greed, the judge added: “You could have accepted £6,500. Instead you proceeded to continue. The costs of the solicitors you involved and the medics were substantial.”
