Stretch out madam, you’re our only flyer with 189 empty seats

- By Kirsty Stewart

AN author told yesterday how she flew solo on a £46 flight to Greece – getting all 189 seats to herself.

Karon Grieve took a selfie showing row after row of empty seats on the Jet2 flight from Glasgow to Crete on Sunday.

The 57-year-old from Dunlop, Ayrshire, was told at check-in that only three people were booked on the end-of-season flight.

But after the other two failed to show up, Karon was treated like an A-lister and given a free meal and the choice of any seat.

The pilot gave her a personal commentary on the flight, addressing her over the intercom by name and pointing out which countries they were flying over. And after landing in Crete, Karon avoided long waiting times for her luggage after being handed her suitcase right from the plane.

Speaking from Crete, Karon said: “When I went to the check-in desk we joked about how many people were on the flight because last year when I was away there were only eight people on the flight. He asked me to guess so we started this guessing game, starting at 10 and working our way down.”

She added: “I had a seat with plenty of leg room. It was fantastic. The crew were wandering around and said just to call if I needed anything. I had all the space to myself. It was so peaceful and I got a lot of work done.”

Karon, who is also a magazine journalist and broadcaster, is now enjoying a month-long holiday in Crete where she is working on a romantic crime novel. Jet2 said: “We’re delighted that Karon got to experience our VIP customer service in style.”
