Glasgow gets a New York makeover as Cumberbatch films TV drama
BENEDICT Cumberbatch shot scenes for his new TV drama series Melrose in Glasgow yesterday.
The Sherlock actor wore a large coat and dark glasses in Bothwell Street in the city centre, which was given a makeover to resemble New York.
US flags flew from buildings, while parking meters were covered and street signs changed.
There were also New York-style yellow taxis.
The five-part series, for Sky Atlantic and Showtime, to air next year, is based on Edward St Aubyn’s semiautobiographical novels.
They include the acclaimed Mother’s Milk.
Cumberbatch, 41, who is executive producer, plays Patrick Melrose. He is described as an “aristocratic and outrageously funny playboy” who turns to substance abuse in order to escape the memories of his abusive childhood.
The series was written by One Day author David Nicholls and stars Luther and Game Of Thrones actress Indira Varma.
