Is ONLINE DATING FOR OVER-50s NOW ACCEPTABLE?

-

Yes

LIVING in remote countryside, the internet has proved to be a lifeline following my divorce (“Silver surge in over-50s seeking love online after divorce”, October 27.)

As well as shopping online, I have been able to connect with single men from my area and beyond.

When I was last single my options were restricted to the people I shared a village with and I ended up settling for someone I wasn’t that well suited to.

The internet can put you in touch with people who actually match your personality and I’m very thankful for that.

No

I SHUDDERED when I read that an increasing number of over-50s are taking to the internet in an attempt to find love.

As a divorcee, I would obviously welcome company and maybe even romance with a special someone but not from the internet.

It is scary how the practise of meeting strangers online is now commonplace, especially among the younger generations.

With the internet, it’s easy to set up a fake profile so you could be easily lured into a scam without knowing it. Better to be safe than sorry is my online mantra. Janet Francis,
