Maddison’s Posh polish

- HOME AWAY

PETERBOROUGH boss Grant McCann described Marcus Maddison as a “special talent” after his goal condemned leaders Shrewsbury to a first defeat of the season.

Maddison hit a spectacular 40-yard half-volley to clinch a 1-0 win and end the Shrews’ 15-match unbeaten run.

McCann said: “Marcus is the only player on the pitch who is capable of doing that.”

Wigan stay second after a goalless derby draw at home to Blackburn, with Latics boss Paul Cook saying: “It wasn’t a great spectacle”.

Bradford are third after a late smash-andgrab raid to beat Portsmouth 1-0 with Matt Kilgallon’s 80th-minute header.

Bantams boss Stuart McCall said: “We didn’t deserve to win but the three points were massive.”

Plymouth remain bottom after a 1-1 draw against Rochdale, while the first-half dismissal of Eoghan O’Connell cost fellow strugglers Bury as they lost 1-0 at home to Doncaster. 1 Man City 2 Man Utd 3 Tottenham 4 Chelsea 5 Arsenal 6 Liverpool 7 Watford 8 Newcastle 9 Southampton 10 Burnley 11 Leicester 12 Brighton 13 Huddersfield 14 Stoke 15 West Brom 16 West Ham 17 Swansea 18 Everton 19 Bournemouth 20 Crystal Palace
