Truro’s pride in debut day
LEE HODGES saluted his Truro City players despite their first-round debut ending in a 3-1 defeat at Charlton.
The first Cornish side to reach this stage of the competition for 48 years were undone by a Ben Reeves brace, with Mark Marshall also on target.
Tyler Harvey’s header, which pulled it back to 2-1 at the time, gave the National League South part-timers’ 1,000 travelling supporters something to cheer about.
Manager Hodges said: “I’m very proud to make it to this stage and the performance was fantastic. We gave a really good account of ourselves. To be clapped off by the Charlton fans shows how well we played.”
Charlton manager Karl Robinson, whose side are three divisions higher, said: “Truro gave it a right go. They have the hunger, desire, application and the fan base to compete at their level.” Elsewhere, Anthony Limbrick rued missed opportunities after Woking had to settle for a 1-1 home draw with Bury.
Michael Smith scored after just 47 seconds for the League One side but Woking looked more likely winners after Millwall loanee Jamie Philpot levelled in the 25th minute.
Woking boss Limbrick said: “It’s a strange one. We’re half happy and half disappointed.”
Jordan Ponticelli scored both goals in Coventry’s 2-0 win over Maidenhead, Swindon thrashed Dartford 5-1 and Exeter overcame Heybridge Swifts 3-1.
Wycombe won 2-0 at Solihull Moors, non-league Guiseley forced a replay with Accrington after a goalless draw at Nethermoor Park while Leatherhead and Billericay also go again after drawing 1-1.
