- By Richard Palmer

THE Duchess of Cambridge welcomed Meghan Markle into the royal fold yesterday.

Kate, 35, described her joy at her brother-in-law Prince Harry’s engagement.

The Duchess, due to give birth to her third child in April, said: “William and I are absolutely thrilled. It’s such exciting news.”

Kate, wearing a navy dotted dress by US designer Kate Spade, spoke during a visit to the Foundling Museum in Bloomsbury, London, the UK’s first children’s charity.

She added: “It’s a really happy time for any couple and we wish them all the best and hope they enjoy this happy moment.”

The Duchess of Cornwall also declared the whole Royal Family is “absolutely thrilled”.

She said on a visit to Stoke-on-Trent with Prince Charles: “It’s brilliant and as I said, America’s loss is our gain. We are all absolutely delighted.

“As you can see, they are so happy. Sometimes, you know, in a climate where we are surrounded by a lot of bad news, it’s a real joy to have a bit of good news for once.”

Earlier a woman in the crowd congratulated her, telling her Meghan “seems a lovely intelligent woman who will be a credit to the Royal Family”.

The Duchess replied: “She’s a star.”
