CCTV footage showed the boys on the scrambler bike heading towards Jessica THE father of a schoolgirl left in a coma after an off-road motorbike crashed into her on a footpath has appealed to parents not to buy them as presents.

Jessica Chisnall, 15, was mown down when the scrambler mounted the pavement near her home in St Helens, Merseyside, in January.

The rider – a 12-year-old boy – and his 16-year-old passenger fled the scene but were later arrested and convicted.

The bike had been given to the older boy as a reward for good achievement in school.

Almost a year later Jessica is still recovering from the terrible ordeal.

Now her family have released the shocking video footage to help highlight the dangers of illegally ridden off-road bikes.

The accident happened as Jessica was walking home from school with friends. She was rushed to Alder Hey Hospital and put in a medically induced coma after suffering bleeding on the brain.

Her father Carl Chisnall said: “I plead with any responsible parent not to buy these bikes. They are not children’s toys, they are not road legal and can only be ridden on private land with the land owner’s permission.

“You’re wasting your money but most of all you are putting your children and others at risk.

“I plead with anyone considering riding these bikes to think again. Think of the numerous people harassed and put at risk by riding these bikes. If you want to use one, find a safe and legal place where you won’t put others and yourselves at risk.”

Her mother Sara said: “Our daughter has been set back by all that has happened and our lives have changed dramatically.”
