Health conditions linked to hearing loss
HEARING loss affects 11 million people across the UK – and by 2035 the charity Action on Hearing Loss expects it to affect one in five of us. Many people suffer hearing loss due to ageing or after continued exposure to loud noise.
But hearing loss can also be a sign of other health conditions.
Chris Childe – Audiologist and Training Manager, for global hearing specialist Amplifon, says: “Many people don’t realise that there is a link between other health conditions and hearing loss.
“It’s sensible to let a professional assess your hearing difficulties.
At Amplifon we can often pick up whether another health condition might be responsible, referring people to other health professionals.”
For those whose hearing is affected, Amplifon can offer free hearing tests at 200 hearing centres nationwide.
Chris adds: “At Amplifon we offer a personal service designed to get to the root of your hearing difficulties and provide the right solutions.”
Here we reveal how six health conditions can be connected to hearing loss… cardiovascular health. Chris says: “The capillaries that supply the inner ear with blood are sensitive to disruptions in blood flow which can be related to high cholesterol. Those with cardiovascular issues should get a hearing test.” include a change in air pressure – especially when flying – as well as ear infections or a blow to the side of the head. Amplifon can advise on the use of hearing aids with perforated eardrums.”
