Molly’s knife killer ‘threatened to drown another girl after one date’

- By John Twomey

THE killer of student Molly McLaren stalked another young woman and threatened to drown her after one date, a court heard yesterday.

Obsessed Joshua Stimpson phoned Alexandra Dale up to 25 times a day and slashed all her car tyres, jurors were told.

He allegedly took secret photos of her, followed her on nights out and texted her on the eve of her holiday, saying he would fly out and kill her.

Ms Dale was giving evidence at Stimpson’s trial for knifing Molly, 23, in Chatham, Kent.

CCTV showed him being arrested in a car park near a gym, calmly placing his hands on the bonnet of a police car.

Stimpson, 26, denies murder but admits manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

Maidstone Crown Court heard he and Ms Dale became Facebook friends and went on one date in Newcastle-underLyme, Staffordshire, in 2013.

Giving evidence via video link, Ms Dale said she was CCTV of Stimpson, circled, during arrest. Right, Molly and Stimpson stunned when Stimpson ordered her not to talk to any other men. She decided not to see him again but he phoned her up to 25 times a day.

Ms Dale added: “He got possessive and wanted to know where I was.

“He would take pictures of me and call me a slag.”

She also told how she was at a party when Stimpson rang to say she was in for “a surprise” and all her tyres were slashed.

Soon afterwards she went to the police and communication from him stopped. Another woman who briefly dated Stimpson told the jury she called him “my stalker”.

Leah Hubbard described him as vain and gym-obsessed and suspected he followed her after they split up.

In a statement, Molly’s mother Joanne said Stimpson was “cold and calculating”.

She told how police had warned him about spreading lies on Facebook but his reaction was “very weird”.

The trial continues.
