WHEN it comes to anti-ageing we are constantly on the lookout for the latest wonder treatments that will keep us looking our best from top to toe.

And this year may well be the most exciting yet with advances in technology ushering in a new generation of procedures from chin shaping to stem cell skin rejuvenation.

Here we share our pick of the hottest cosmetic treatments and trends that are tipped to take the next 12 months by storm.

MICRO JABS

Microinjection techniques, where tiny amounts of Botox and filler are used to soften lines and erase pores, will be the way forward this year.

During the procedure minuscule amounts are injected superficially in the upper layers of the skin, resulting in tighter skin, reduced oil production and a smoother complexion. This is a great procedure if you are looking for a completely natural result as the face looks fresh and rejuvenated without seeming overdone.

Results are seen within three to five days and the procedures, which need no recovery time, are also cost effective as a result of using less product.

STEM CELL SKIN REJUVENATION

We predict that stem cells will be the biggest beauty trend this year. Stem cells can turn into any type of cell that the body needs, making them perfect for rejuvenation.

These anti-ageing powerhouses help to repair and regenerate skin and can also be used to add volume to the bust and bottom.

During the treatment, liposuction is used to remove fat from an area such as the stomach or inner thighs. The fat is combined with the patient’s own stem cells and injected back into the desired area to plump, restore and lift. Prices start from £5,000.

HIGH-TECH IMPLANTS

Look out for the latest implants that are now safer than ever before thanks to new microchip technology. This stores information such as date of manufacture, size and serial number so doctors can quickly determine the make and model of the implants using a special scanner.

Another exciting development is pre-procedure 3D virtual reality glasses, which will enable patients to see how they would look after augmentation or reduction before taking the plunge.

FACE TIGHTENING

Non-surgical skin tightening procedures have been growing in popularity and are set to be one of the biggest trends of the year.

Technology has improved and the treatment now combines radiofrequency, ultrasound energy and infrared light to tighten the skin below the surface.

Most devices can be used on all areas of the face, including around the eyes, and work by heating the dermis to stimulate collagen growth, rejuvenating skin from the inside out. This is the perfect option for people who don’t want surgery or injectables and most treatments are quick and painless.

There is no recovery time but a course is required to see best results. Prices start from around £150 per treatment.

CHIN SCULPTING

Chin treatments are set to be one of the fastest growing procedures this year. Patients, particularly people in their 50s and 60s, typically

request procedures to get rid of a double chin or to add shape.

Cleverly placed volumising filler can have the same effect as a chin implant. The 30-minute procedure can also reduce over-prominent chins or add volume to a small, weak chin.

Results last up to 18 months and for many can rival a full facelift without drastically altering the appearance or needing extensive facial surgery. Prices start from £450.

FAT GRAFTING

This year fat transplantation procedures will be big news. This is when fat is taken from the patient’s own body and used as a natural alternative to fillers, restoring lost volume under the eyes and plumping thin lips as well as reshaping breasts, ageing hands and even the calves.

Spare fat is harvested by liposuction and transferred to the desired location by injection.

The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic with little bruising or discomfort and minimal recovery time.

Benefits include a lower cost than synthetic fillers, no risk of allergic reaction and a more natural result.

As not all of the fat will stay in place, most patients will need a top-up treatment after three months and then annually going forward. Prices start from £2,500 depending on treatment area.
