Leeds forced to rethink badge
LEEDS UNITED are set to reopen the consultation process over their new badge.
The Championship club’s redesigned crest – to be used from next season to celebrate their 100th anniversary – was met with a negative reaction.
Supporters have described it as “terrible”, a petition calling for it to be scrapped has received more than 50,000 signatures and it has been widely ridiculed.
Now Elland Road chiefs look set to think again on the design. Managing director Angus Kinnear said: “It has not been my easiest day in the office. But it reminds me of the great club I’m working for, the passion that has come from the fanbase.
“As we look at the feedback, it’s clear the consultation process wasn’t extensive enough and we need to reopen that process.” Leeds defender Pontus Jansson has spoken of his “shock” at the new crest, while fan Steven Barrett was moved to start the petition. WEST HAM completed a loan deal last night for Inter Milan midfielder Joao Mario. The 25-year-old Portuguese, left, who helped his country win Euro 2016, had been told he had no future at the Serie A club by coach Luciano Spalletti. The Hammers will pay an initial £1.3million loan fee with the option of a £26million permanent deal at the end of the season.
SOUTHAMPTON have agreed a club-record £19.1m deal for Monaco striker Guido Carrillo, 26, who played under manager Mauricio Pellegrino at Estudiantes.
