You’re on Cheat Street in new Monopoly

- By Michael Knowles

HAVE you ever felt the urge to cheat during a game of Monopoly? If so, good news is on the way.

The classic board game’s makers are launching a new “Cheaters’ Edition”, where players are encouraged to break the rules and be dishonest.

The new version will introduce cheat cards, which give players tasks such as demolishing a rival’s hotel, avoiding rent payments and even committing bank robberies.

If a player successfully breaks the rules without getting caught, they could be rewarded with free cash or extra properties. Jonathan Berkowitz, of Monopoly owners Hasbro, said: “A recent study revealed that nearly half of game players attempt to cheat during Monopoly games.

“So we decided it was time to give fans what they’ve been craving all along – a Monopoly game that actually encourages cheating.

“For the first time in Monopoly history, there is no designated banker.

“Players are in control of the bank on their turn, and pass it to the next player when their turn is over, making it easier to pull off cheats such as the bank heist.”

He added: “We’ve finally decided to embrace our less-than-honest fans by encouraging them to partake in those sometimes unspoken Monopoly moments that occur during family game nights.

“We’re excited to see what fans can get away with and how they’ll react to the new sneaky twists in the game.”

The Cheaters’ Edition will be launched this autumn, and be available in the UK and internationally.
