Revenge is sweet after hard-Left protest boosts Blighty cafe trade

- By Tim Stewart

A PATRIOTIC cafe targeted by hard-Left students has enjoyed a surge in trade after rising into the top 10 of a travel review website.

Protesters from the School of Oriental and African Studies staged a demo at Blighty in Finsbury Park, north London.

The cafe boasts a statue of iconic war leader Winston Churchill and is bedecked with British flags, model Spitfires and an air-raid shelter.

The so-called “snowflake” students chanted “Churchill was a racist” and urged people to boycott the venue.

But Blighty has since enjoyed five-star ratings on TripAdvisor, rising from the 300s to number nine of more than 1,000 cafes in London.

Supporters are leaving reviews full of gags at the expense of the protesters whose school is based at the University of London.

Stuart H wrote: “Fantastic place, great staff and decor with a good range of cafe and brunch options.

“The wilted snowflake served on a bed of sour grapes was particularly excellent.”

Jim headed his review Rule Britannia and went on: “After the extremist neo-fascists stormed this sceptred cafe, I immediately enlisted in the fight against leftist tyranny.

“I tucked into a superb breakfast that can fuel any Brit seeking to fight authoritarians on any terrain, including beaches, streets and hills.”

Another reviewer joked: “Fit for Britain’s saviour himself. Their finest hour. Go and savour the kind of meals your grandparents ate while saving the civilised world.”

Another wrote: “Service was really good. We shall fight them in the cafes – quietly and politely. Thank you.”

The cafe is also proving a hit with builders. One wrote: “Being a builder I had to try the full English breakfast and especially the tea. Well, it was fantastic and I wasn’t disappointed. Blighty and Winston Churchill you have done me proud.”

Meanwhile, Mary H told how the 14 protesters had spoilt her visit to the cafe with their chants about “colonialism”.

She said: “Excellent service and menu. Pity the lefty young lazy thick of the country had to spoil my visit with their pointless intrusion.

“They should take in their education we paid for and see why they have freedom of speech instead of being under German rule. Thank you Mr Churchill and Blighty cafe.”

But protest ringleader Halimo Hussein, a politics undergraduate, wrote: “Bland breakfasts and awful watery tasting coffee, toilets filthy.”

Owner Chris Evans, 40, had to remove a giant mural of Churchill after it was repeatedly daubed with graffiti branding the wartime prime minister “scum”, “warmonger’ and “imperialist”.

He said: “All we are doing is celebrating a true British hero in Churchill. We are obviously very pleased with all the five-star TripAdvisor reviews.

“It would be great and ironic if, after the protest, we ended up at number one.”
