We’ve got our belief back now says Ince

- Ian Winrow

TOM INCE believes an FA Cup run can help make the difference to Huddersfield’s efforts to avoid an immediate return to the Championship.

David Wagner’s side have slipped into the bottom three of the Premier League after a run of five straight league defeats.

But they switched off from their relegation fight to set up a fifth-round meeting with Manchester United after beating Birmingham in a replay on Tuesday night.

Ince, who scored, admits the losing streak has affected confidence.

But he feels the midweek win is the perfect lift ahead of Sunday’s home clash with Bournemouth.

“Sunday is massive for us and now we focus on that,” said the winger.

“If we hadn’t won in the cup, the losing streak would have continued. A win changes the changing room in terms of morale and belief. It was a good night.

“The league and cup can go together. It’s great to have a cup run. The experience of having Manchester United at home will be great.

“Frustration starts to kick in when you’re losing games. You start to look at yourself as you go down the table.

“That then leads to you getting, I won’t say desperate, but you do start to look where you can pick up points.

“All of a sudden you find yourself making rash decisions and you’re not in the right frame of mind. Things become rushed and you’re no longer calm.

“The thought process is, ‘I don’t want to lose the ball here’. You get rushed.

“The main things about us is that the game against Birmingham came at the right time. It allowed us to take our mind off the league and play with freedom.”
