RT Fed boost for GB
Mikaela Shiffrin (USA), Alpine skiing
Not yet 23, Shiffrin is on a pace that could leave her as the most decorated World Cup racer ever – she has won 41 races. Already owns one Olympic gold and could win two more here in the slalom and giant slalom.
Martin Fourcade (France), Biathlon
Dubbed the Lionel Messi of biathlon, an endurance sport that combines cross-country skiing and shooting. An 11-time world champion and six-time overall World Cup winner, he won two golds and a silver in Sochi. This time, he wants a perfect record.
Yun Sungbin (South Korea), Skeleton
The poster boy of these Games and after a dominant World Cup season, he is expected to deliver. Fans call him the Iron Man and he is powered by British knowledge – his equipment is provided by Sheffield engineer Richard Bromley.
Izzy Atkin (Great Britain), Freestyle Skiing
The first British female skier to win a World Cup slopestyle event last March, and in form too, with a World Cup silver last month in Aspen.
Elise Christie (Great Britain), Short Track Speed Skating
Hoping her third Olympic appearance is lucky. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong in Sochi four years ago. But she is here as a three-time world champion last season and is the one to beat.
Today
Billy Morgan and Jamie Nicholls will be Team GB’s first medal chances in the snowboard slopestyle.
Tuesday
Short track speed skater Elise Christie goes for gold in the 500m.
February 17
Lizzy Yarnold defends her skeleton title, Christie is in the 1500m short track and freestyle skier Izzy Atkin in the women’s slopestyle.
February 18
X Games medallist James Woods looks for another podium finish in the freestyle skiing men’s slopestyle.
February 22
Christie goes in the 1000m while Dave Ryding is an skiing slalom contender.
February 24
GB men’s curling rink attempt to upgrade the silver from four years ago.
February 24
Eve Moorhead’s curling rink go for gold to bring the curtain down on what Team GB hope will be the most successful Winter Olympics ever. JOHANNA KONTA and Heather Watson were victorious again as Great Britain beat Estonia to progress through to a Fed Cup play-off today.
Konta and Watson both won their singles matches as Britain saw off Portugal on Wednesday, and were triumphant again yesterday against host nation Estonia in Tallinn.
After Watson had thrashed 15-year-old Katriin Saar 6-1, 6-1 in just 57 minutes, Konta eventually emerged victorious in a much tougher encounter with world No27 Anett Kontaveit, winning 6-7, 6-4, 6-2, to earn Britain an unassailable 2-0 lead.
Meanwhile, Roger Federer has signalled his intent to become the oldest world No1 in history by accepting a wild card into the Rotterdam Open next week.
Federer has not topped the rankings since 2012 but with no points to defend in Rotterdam, he can leapfrog Rafa Nadal. At 36, he would eclipse Andre Agassi, who was world No1 at the age of 33.
