England will stay ‘aggressive’

- Gideon Brooks

CHRIS JORDAN says England will not ease up on their all-out assault, insisting they will “take it to the opposition” whenever possible.

England paid for a gung-ho approach against Australia in Hobart in their TriSeries opener, losing five wickets for 15 runs trying to blast to a defendable total.

Yet despite losing that match by five wickets, Jordan says they are not about to alter their style ahead of the second clash with the Aussies in Melbourne today.

“We do play a positive and aggressive brand of cricket, and we’ll try to take it to the opposition where possible,” said the all-rounder.

“These things do happen but over a period of time we will have more success than failure. In T20 cricket, you’re always looking to take the positive option and we always trust whoever is out there to do that and play their natural game.”

Several of England’s batsmen were out slogging but they retained the backing of captain Eoin Morgan, who said the risk-taking was right if not the execution. But Morgan’s margin for error in the Tri-Series is smaller following the openingmatch defeat, with just three more games to come: today against Australia and two more against New Zealand next week.

Jordan says the outlook is still positive. “Even with a batting collapse, we still put on 156,” he said. “Imagine when we don’t get a collapse, maybe we’ll end up with 200 or 210.”
