Mum Helen rebuffs rude weight tweet

MANICS WANT A DRY NIGHT AT ISLE OF WIGHT

-

THE MANIC STREET PREACHERS will be hoping the elements are more in their favour this time around as they get set to perform at June’s Isle Of Wight Festival for the first time since playing to a virtual mud bath on the island in 2011.

Thankfully £300,000 has been spent on drainage since the Welsh rockers’ last performance so their fans should be in for a more comfortable experience whatever the weather may hold.

As well as The Manics, a further 22 acts have just been announced for the festival’s 50th anniversary, including Rita Ora, Jessie J, Soul II Soul and Sheryl Crow. CALL THE MIDWIFE star Helen George has hit back at a Twitter user who said she looked massive and should be put on a diet after watching her starring in Sunday’s show.

The 33-year-old, who was pregnant at the time of filming, said in response: “Sorry if my chins offended you, I chose to feed my baby healthily and not starve myself in a selfish act to look good on TV. Would you say this to a pregnant lady’s face? You should look on pregnant ladies’ multiple chins with love, they are busy making the future.” Then she signed off her tweet with a kiss.

Helen, who stars alongside Stephen McGann, Jenny Agutter and Fresh Meat star Charlotte Ritchie in the BBC One Sunday night staple, then went on to suggest that, far from being an isolated incident, she has faced a number of similar comments in the past.

The actress, who plays Trixie Franklin in the series, and her co-star and off-screen partner Jack Ashton welcomed a daughter in October.

The former Strictly contestant, who came sixth on the dance show in 2015, gave birth to Wren Ivy six weeks prematurely after discovering she had the liver condition ICP (intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy).

The condition causes a build-up of acid that can then pass into the placenta and have an effect on the baby.
