Spurs battle back to stun Juve while City run riot Jones: Lay off the TMO

- Gary Chappell Adam Hathaway

TOTTENHAM fought back from two goals down to earn a famous draw against Juventus in Turin last night.

Spurs made a horror start to this Champions League last-16 tie and trailed 2-0 in just nine minutes, Gonzalo Higuain scoring in the second minute, before Serge Aurier conceded a penalty which Higuain converted.

Harry Kane pulled a goal back but Spurs conceded a second penalty just before half-time – only this time Higuain hit the crossbar.

Christian Eriksen levelled with a free-kick to set up a thrilling clash at Wembley in the return leg on March 7 and Kane said: “We deserved to get back into the game.”

Manchester City cruised to victory against Basle, with Ilkay Gundogan scoring twice and Bernardo Silva and Sergio Aguero with one each. EDDIE JONES laid into World Rugby after the ruling body said Wales’ disallowed try on Saturday should have been given.

The game’s governors issued a statement saying Gareth Anscombe should have been awarded a score by TMO Glenn Newman, as he had touched the ball down before Anthony Watson.

England went on to win 12-6, and Jones insists they should have let sleeping dogs lie and kept well out of it.

“Once the game’s done and dusted that’s the game,” said the England coach. “We’ve got to trust the referees, respect their integrity. When I say respect the referee, that’s the TMO process as well, and then you leave it at that, and then you get on with it. One side’s won, one side’s lost.”
