British woman killed in holiday isle horror crash

A BRITISH woman was killed and her husband seriously injured in a horrific three-car collision on the holiday island of Tenerife.

Pamela Millward, 77, died at the scene despite the efforts of paramedics to save her.

Her husband Ronald, believed to be the same age, was rushed to hospital “with serious injuries” from Sunday morning’s crash.

The couple, said to be from Somerset, are thought to have been holidaying on the island.

Mr Millward was driving when the couple’s Renault Clio was hit head-on by a Ford Fiesta near the hill village of Piedra Hincada.

The other driver, a local man in his 20s who has not been named, was taken to hospital along with his partner who was evacuated from the scene in a helicopter.

The crash happened just after 11am on the carriagewa­y in the west of the island, a short drive from the fishing village of Playa San Juan. Local reports said the Fiesta veered on to the wrong side of the road and hit another car before smashing into the Millwards.

Civil Guard officers are investigat­ing and a magistrate will oversee an inquiry into the tragedy.

An local emergency services spokesman said: “We were alerted just after 11am on Sunday about a road traffic accident involving three vehicles on the TF-46 near Piedra Hincada in the municipali­ty of Guia de Isora.

“One of the vehicles caught fire after the collision. Emergency response teams were activated immediatel­y.

“Firefighte­rs found the fire had already been put out by the time they arrived and proceeded to free four of the casualties trapped in two of the vehicles.

“The dead woman was found to be suffering cardiac arrest and efforts to save her failed.”
