Foxes pay £3m Fair Play bill

-

LIVERPOOL Under-19s coach Steven Gerrard was thrilled with his side’s performance in a 2-0 win over Manchester United in the UEFA Youth League.

A Ben Woodburn goal and a stunner from Rafael Camacho set up a quarterfinal at Manchester City. Gerrard, right, said: “We dominated. Rafa creating a bit of magic helped us breathe towards the end.” LEICESTER have paid the English Football League £3.1million to settle a Financial Fair Play dispute.

The Foxes were deemed to have breached the EFL’s Championship FFP Rules during the 2013-14 season.

But the EFL said in a statement yesterday that Leicester “did not make any deliberate attempt to infringe the rules or to deceive”, with the dispute arising from the rules being interpreted differently.

Leicester won the Championship title in the 2013-14 season as Nigel Pearson’s side totalled 102 points from 46 games. Proceedings in the FFP case were stayed pending the outcome of a legal challenge by Queens Park Rangers against those rules.

The challenge from QPR – who finished fourth that season before earning promotion through the play-offs – is still ongoing.

The EFL said in a statement: “The EFL acknowledges that the dispute arose out of genuine differences of interpretation of the rules between the parties.

“The agreed settlement of £3,100,000 is in full and final settlement of all and any claims by the EFL against the club and its officers.” CRAIG BELLAMY is in talks with Oxford United to become their new manager. Bellamy, below, currently works for Cardiff as their player development manager, a position he has held since December 2016. The 38-year-old was interviewed for the Wales job last month but lost out to his former team-mate Ryan Giggs. Cardiff chief executive Ken Choo said: “This could be a good move for his career.” Oxford, who are 15th in League One, have been without a manager since sacking Spaniard Pep Clotet last month.
