It isn’t a beauty contest

Mont Blanc – they come in and out. But resilience and toughness stays and that is what we are trying to develop.

“Test match coaching is not as brutal as football but if you want to just entertain people, you generally find you are not in the job too long.”

England talisman Owen Farrell has been declared fit, and Scotland centre Pete Horne is relishing the chance to test himself against the man on whose game he models his own.

Horne stands outside Finn Russell to help dictate the attack for Townsend’s side in a bid to replicate the partnership Farrell, right, shares with George Ford.

“You play the game to test yourself against these guys and across from me will be probably one of the best players in the world,” said Horne. “It’s really exciting.

“Ford is a really talented and special player but Farrell outside him really makes him tick.

“I have picked up lots of little drills that Owen does after training to try to help my game.”

Scotland have not beaten England in 10 years but Horne is hoping they can use the barren run as motivation tomorrow.

The Glasgow playmaker said: “No one likes getting beaten, especially year on year, so if anything it just fuels our fire.

“We’re desperate to turn it around and get a good win for us and for the country.”
