Dad’s fury at nasty note on disabled daughter’s car in blue badge space

- By Josh Charles

A DISABLED woman’s father has slammed the motorist who left a note on his daughter’s car threatening to report them for using a blue badge parking space.

Paige Tanner, 23, was born with a chromosome disorder that leaves her unable to carry out basic day-today tasks.

The offensive note attacked the mother and daughter for taking up the disabled parking space because the 23-year-old showed “no sign of a disability”.

The note read: “You will be reported for illegal use of a blue badge space. I witnessed you and your young able-bodied daughter park the car at the precinct with no sign of disability. This selfish action deprives a disabled person of somewhere to park.”

Alan Tanner, of Reading, Berkshire shared the note on his Facebook page following the incident and hit back at the anonymous motorist. He wrote: “This was a letter left on my wife’s car today, when in Woodley precinct with Paige. She was parked in a disabled parking space. Paige has got a valid disabled badge. So to the person that wrote this letter, do not judge unless you know the full details of someone’s disability.

“Paige is not a young girl as you stated but a 23-year-old adult who is severely mentally disabled and requires one-to-one support at all times.” He added: “I hope the person who wrote this gets to see this.”

The father-of-two said he hoped the driver responsible had learned a valuable lesson.

He went on: “I would like them to see her for a week and then they would see why she needs that blue badge.”

A number of people rushed to share their sympathies on the social media site. Rita Holland wrote: “Sadly there are too many who do abuse it at the detriment of the genuine disabled.

“It says more about that ignorant person than you, just ignore it. They are sad people with no life.”

Natalie Leng wrote: “Disability comes in many different forms, so many that are invisible to others. Such a shame that people feel that it is OK to comment when they know very little.”
