Behaving Badly star Neil Morrissey didn’t have the ideal preparation for taking part in an 800km 16-day trek across France and Spain. In fact all he did to ready himself for BBC2’s The Pilgrimage was having a stroll to his local pub in north London.

“Of course I didn’t prepare! I think walking up to Alexandra Palace three times a week isn’t really the best preparation for walking the Pyrenees!” says the 55-year-old who will be seen following in the footsteps of pilgrims as he hikes with six other celebs to the shrine of St James in the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in the three parter which starts on March 10.

And at the end of one particularly gruelling day he summed up his poor preparation by saying: “I don’t feel closer to God but I definitely feel close to death.”
