Knockaert in old routine
BY his own admission, Anthony Knockaert has been forced to rethink his game this season.
Last term, the French winger could do no wrong as he inspired Brighton’s surge into the top flight, lifting the Championship player-of-the-year award along the way.
This time around, the demands are very different and Knockaert, left, has had to shift his focus onto his defensive duties. On Saturday, though, the 26-year-old
BRIGHTON
revived memories of last year, threatening down the flank and capping one of his best displays of the season with his third goal to boost their survival bid.
He said: “It’s a different level, you can see we play differently as well. We defend a lot more and it doesn’t allow me to go forward as much as I did last year. So I tried to do my best defensively for the team and then I try to be in the box when I can.
“If we stay up next year it’ll be different because we know the level and we’ll have one more year experience in the Premier League so yes, it’s going to be better.”
Glenn Murray took his tally to 10 league goals with a double, Knockaert netted the third and record signing Jurgen Locadia hit the fourth after Swansea’s Tammy Abraham’s 85th-minute shot deflected in off Lewis Dunk.
Swansea paid the price for chasing the game and midfielder Ki Sun-Yueng admitted defeat increases the pressure on next Saturday’s meeting with fellow strugglers West Ham.
He said: “We need to analyse what was wrong in the game and we have to go forward. We don’t need to have our heads down.”
