Meghan shines at the Abbey

- By Richard Palmer Royal Correspondent

MEGHAN Markle joined the Queen on an official engagement for the first time yesterday and admitted she is “very, very excited” about marrying Prince Harry in just over two months.

Sitting only a few feet from Her Majesty, the American former actress marked a major milestone in her march towards the aisle.

The annual Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey is one of the most important events in the monarch’s year.

Seated behind the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall, Meghan, 36, looked stunning in a Stephen Jones beret and an £895 cream Amanda Wakeley coat and navy dress.

A navy Mulberry Darley clutch bag and Manolo Blahnik BB pump suede heels completed her look.

It was another outing for the Royal Family’s new Fab Four – Harry, 33, Meghan and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Kate, 36, who is eight months pregnant with her third child, wore a navy dress and coat by Beulah London and wide-brimmed hat by Lock & Co.

On the 91-year-old Queen’s arrival Meghan appeared momentarily lost for words as the congregation burst into the National Anthem.

After the service, Harry, Meghan, William and Kate met schoolchildren and their teachers from across Britain who had attended.

Meghan told one group of pupils and their teacher that she was “very, very excited” about her fastapproaching wedding on May 19.

Holly Hartley, principal of Thistley Hough Academy in Stoke-on-Trent, said: “She stayed chatting with us for quite a while – what a lovely, lovely lady.”
