Six ways to cut the sugar rush
WHEN actress Linda Robson posted a picture of herself relaxing on a sunlounger in Spain earlier this week, all eyes were on her trim figure.
The 60-year-old Birds Of A Feather star has lost an impressive 2st by cutting out sugar and alcohol.
“Linda looks amazing and cutting out sugar is indeed a great way to lose weight and feel fabulous,” explains nutritionist Rosie Millen (missnutritionist.com).
Here she shares her top tips for living life without the sweet stuff.
1 BE PATIENT
Going cold turkey can leave you feeling tired and headachy but this typically lasts for only three days. Then you will feel more energised – without the need for sweet treats.
2 DRINK WATER
We often confuse thirst for sugar cravings so before snacking try drinking a glass of water first.
3 LOOK AT LABELS
Sometimes it’s impossible to avoid sugar but xylitol and stevia are much better for you than any kind of syrup or ingredients ending in “ose” such as sucrose or fructose.
4 TAKE FISH OIL
Taking a fish oil supplement with every meal can help stop sugar cravings. Fish oil has been shown to naturally stabilise blood sugar levels.
5 GET MOVING
Exercise pushes sugar from your bloodstream into your cells, where it is used up for energy. A workout also gives you something to focus on instead of sugary snacks.
6 BOOZE CONTROL
Alcohol contains a lot of sugar so be smart about what you drink. Red and white wine and champagne have a higher sugar content than spirits so if you fancy a tipple try switching to vodka, soda and fresh lime.
