at Tottenham on Saturday and the Manchester derby defeat.

Neville believes the former Liverpool player is capable of many more goals if he puts the graft in on the training ground, pointing to the relatively slow starts in terms of scoring made by both Henry and Ronaldo in their careers before they took off as they developed from wide players to worldclass marksmen.

He said: “When Henry or Ronaldo went through on goal you thought ‘goal.’ When Raheem goes through on goal at the moment you are not sure. He has a jump to make and that is purely down to the confidence you get from doing it every single day.

“It is the authority to take the chance and to have the right technique, not to lean back, not to snatch at it when it comes to it. He is getting into the positions but his technique is letting him down. His ability to compose himself and make the right decision is letting him down.

“Guardiola is absolutely right. He needs to improve his maturity, his finishing and his decision-making in the final third.

“Raheem is tenacious, he’s hard working, he’s a tough player and he’s quick. Can he get to the Henry and Ronaldo level? That’s debatable because they are two of the greatest players, but that is the challenge.

“Guardiola has said that he is looking for him to become one of the best players in the world. To get to that level he has to change something that he is doing now.

“If he is able to improve in front of goal, then he will become one of the best players in the world.”

CITY have confirmed they will play Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund in the International Champions Cup on their pre-season tour of the USA in the summer.
