Key to long life? A daily Guinness says Olive, 100

-

THE secret of a long life is a glass of Guinness a day, says a woman who has just turned 100.

Olive Netting, born on May 4, 1918, in Plymouth, should know. She has been drinking a glass of “the black stuff” as the Irish stout is known, every day since the Second World War ended.

For her 85th birthday, Olive’s son surprised her with a trip to Dublin to visit the Guinness brewery.

This year the firm sent the widow a personalised gift basket with a card, packets of Guinness-flavoured crisps and bottles of her favourite tipple.

Granddaughter Tammy Netting, 37, said Olive, who held a Guinness-themed birthday party to show off her telegram from the Queen, believes she has lived so long “because of the iron intake” in the drink.
