George Cool-ney! Star and his wife have a hoot on a trendy scooter
AS CELEBRITY couples go, they are widely regarded as the coolest around.
And George Clooney and wife Amal showed off their street credentials as they zipped around on a trendy scooter.
The Hollywood star and his human rights lawyer wife were spotted astride a powerful Yamaha scooter in sun-drenched Sardinia at the weekend.
Clooney, 57, is a seasoned motorcyclist who goes on an annual biking trip once a year with his good friend Rande Gerber.
But on this occasion, without his beloved Harley-Davidson, the actor and 40-year-old Amal were enjoying some free time away from their twins, Alexander and Ella.
Two-time Oscar winner Clooney recently praised his “remarkable” wife for being an “incredible” mother to the twins, who celebrate their first birthday in a few days.
The couple were all smiles as they relived Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck’s celebrated scooter scene in the 1953 film Roman Holiday.
One local resident said: “They are very unassuming and polite and everyone loves them here. They looked pretty cool on their scooter, especially Amal in her Gucci sunglasses.”
Clooney has long been an enthusiast of travelling on two wheels.
The actor says when he needs to escape the smell of nappies and baby food, he simply pulls on a motorcycle helmet and dark glasses and heads for the highway.
And he is said to believe it is the perfect way to stay under the radar.
With Gerber, 56, he has gone on a number of summer motorcycle road trips.
The pair founded tequila business Casamigos together (which was later sold in a billion-dollar deal) and have neighbouring holiday homes in Mexico.
In the past they have toured on their Harley-Davidsons across America, cruised the Dolomite mountain range in Italy, and explored the island of Corsica.
Gerber, who is married to former supermodel Cindy Crawford and runs a bar and restaurant empire, said: “Sometimes we ride for 15 hours a day. We never know where we are going – we just get up in the morning and hit the road. With a helmet on, people have no idea who we are.”
