TV’s Fiona rallies for Alzheimer’s-hit Babs

-

WHICH singer, who promotes a popular hair brand that focuses on her luscious locks, actually has alopecia and uses hair extensions? FIONA PHILLIPS is helping Dame Barbara Windsor’s struggling husband Scott Mitchell cope with the tragic actress’s Alzheimer’s.

Fiona, 57, who lost her parents to the illness, tells Day & Night: “Scott is in touch with me. [He] is going to be the one that is the affected hugely and it will be a test of their relationship. It will become frustrating for him…”

The TV presenter, who insists she can “actually tell people who have got dementia now and there is this look in their eyes” admits that she has never been particularly close to the former EastEnders star, 80, or Scott, 55. However, after she sent them words of support and spoke of her experience, Scott reached out.

“Barbara hasn’t been out recently and I did wonder about her,” says the mum-of-two – whose TV show Shop Smart Save Money starts tonight on Five.

Scott decided to go public with the news last month, stating: “Since her 80th birthday last August, a definite continual confusion has set in, so it’s becoming a lot more difficult for us to hide.

“I live in constant terror that she’s going to say something, or suddenly have a panic attack, or get photographed when she’s not looking right.”
