Daily Express - - FREDERICK FORSYTH -

HEALTH care provider Bupa was fined £3million yesterday after a pensioner died at a care home.

Kenneth Ibbetson, 86, died after contracting Legionnaire’s disease at Hutton Village Care Home in Brentwood, Essex, in June 2015.

Bupa Care Homes BNH admitted health and safety failings at Ipswich Crown Court.

Judge Emma Peters blasted the care company for its “significant and serious” failings which meant that Legionnaire’s concerns raised in 2012 were not acted upon for three years.

Bupa was also ordered to pay costs of £151,482.

Joan Elliott, managing director for Bupa Care Services, said: “We are deeply sorry.”
