SO drinking a glass of plonk, particularly white or rosé , makes women happy. I totally agree (“Vino gives women joy, but men just wine about it”, June 14).

There is nothing better than kicking off your shoes after a long, tiring day and pouring yourself a glass.

And the weekend isn’t the weekend without a cheeky glass or two on a Saturday night.

The research says that wine doesn’t make men as happy but I think that’s more to do with the amount they drink and the resulting hangover. Jennifer Catterall,

Bingley, W Yorks WINE might give you a temporary lift when you are stressed but, believe me, it makes you anything but happy in the long run.

All these people who advocate a large glass or two each night don’t realise they could be consuming more than three times the advised alcohol limit each week.

That affects their mood the next day, their health and their ability to function to the best of their ability.

It is no wonder that more and more people are ending up in hospital with alcohol-related issues. And there’s nothing to make you happy about that.
