There are 3 ways you can order: A FORMER convent schoolgirl has told how she had a secret lovechild with a Catholic priest in the 1970s – after he was jailed for two years.
Father Alan Devine, now 75, became “infatuated” with the unnamed youngster when she was just 15. She had his baby aged 19.
A court heard that after grooming her at the convent, he also sexually assaulted her younger sister at swimming lessons.
Later, Devine quit the priesthood – but tormented his two young victims further by dating their unsuspecting mother, it was said.
The twisted clergyman made the teenager give up her baby for adoption to protect his acts, Manchester’s Minshull Street Crown Court heard.
Devine was convicted after a two-week trial of six indecent assault offences on the two sisters in the 1970s.
The victim he fathered a child with has finally revealed how he destroyed her life.
The unnamed woman, now 58, said: “He was a priest, he should not have been having sex with anyone.
“Nobody can imagine how it has been for me. I have had severe mental blocks.
“The unexpected birth of a child when I was in my teenage years, the courses of counselling and medication has had a psychological impact. “It has been horrific.” Devine, of Stockport, Greater Manchester, was jailed and ordered to sign the sex offenders register for 10 years.
It emerged in 2005 he accepted a police caution for possession of indecent photos of children while working in a children’s home.
Devine admitted fathering a child with the victim but claimed the affair began after she turned 18.
He confessed he was “infatuated” with her.
