Reds hope to avoid bid war

-

Alisson in January but were shocked by the price tag Roma put on the goalkeeper.

They have now decided to swoop, wary that Real Madrid are closing in on Chelsea keeper Thibaut Courtois, which could see the Londoners enter the race for Alisson.

Liverpool had believed the Brazilian was heading to Real but now it appears they are keen only on Courtois.

However, if Real fail to convince Chelsea to sell the Belgium No1, they could refocus attentions on Alisson and leave Liverpool in a bidding war. The Reds are hoping for swift negotiations to avoid any auction but it appears they may have to raise their bid.

Klopp insisted he was prepared to back Karius despite the goalkeeper handing two goals to Real in the Champions League final in May. Karius found out two weeks later he had suffered concussion in the game following a collision with Sergio Ramos.

The German then dropped another clanger in a pre-season game against Tranmere last week, which further intensified speculation over his position. ❑Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster, 18, has signed a five-year contract with the club. OLEKSANDR ZINCHENKO has flown off with Manchester City on their US tour but is still expected to leave this summer.

City have accepted a club-record bid of £16 million from Wolves for Zinchenko, right, with Fulham also keen.

Ukraine international Zinchenko, 21, made 14 appearances for City last season, mainly as an auxiliary left-back.
