Groom acquitted of honeymoon murder finds love with a man
A MILLIONAIRE businessman who was cleared of murdering his wife on their South African honeymoon has found love with another man.
Care home director Shrien Dewani is in a relationship with Brazilian-born photographer Gledison Lopez Martins.
The 38-year-old was acquitted of paying criminals to shoot his wife Anni dead during a botched Cape Town carjacking eight years ago.
Mr Dewani married the 28-yearold despite being a bisexual who had secret sex sessions with male prostitutes.
His sexuality only emerged as the trial four years ago was told he claimed to be in a loving relationship with Swedish-born Anni.
Three men were convicted and jailed for her kidnap and murder before the court threw out the case against the British defendant.
But afterwards his wife’s furious sister Ami Denborg claimed the South African justice system had “failed us”. She added: “We are deeply disappointed.
“We came here looking for answers and we came here looking for truth and all we got was more questions.”
Mr Dewani’s relationship with the Brazilian photographer began 18 months ago, and they have enjoyed a series of foreign holidays together.
They travelled to Mumbai – where Dewani met his wife – and the Spanish party island of Ibiza.
Dewani’s family, who had no idea about his double life at the time of the wedding, invited his new love to their home at Christmas.
Anni’s uncle Ashok said: “If he’s been to Ibiza I hope he enjoyed the beaches. My family and I will never be able to in the same way because Anni loved the beach and every time we have tried to go we have left in tears.
“Her memory and the things she loved hurts us today and always will.”
Anni was murdered hours into her honeymoon, after the couple were ambushed in a notorious township as they were driven to their hotel from a restaurant.
The men convicted – Zola Tongo, Mziwamadoda Qwabe and Xolile Mngeni – said Dewani had arranged the attack. Judges ruled their evidence flawed and the case was thrown out.
