Crazed ‘Hulk’ in leap from window after killing lover

- By Chris Riches

A CRAZED killer who murdered his lover just hours after their early Valentine’s Day celebration has been jailed for life.

Michael Marler, 37, stabbed 24-year-old Danielle Richardson 15 times in the face, neck and back after going on a “two-week drug bender”.

On February 12 they enjoyed a romantic outing to the cinema to see the 1992 film The Bodyguard, starring Whitney Houston.

At about 7.30am the next day, dramatic CCTV footage showed Marler, covered in blood, leaping 25ft from the window of Danielle’s flat and landing on a car.

Manchester Crown Court heard he punched and bit a passer-by before police called to the city centre flat found Danielle face down on the floor.

Yesterday Marler, dubbed the “Incredible Hulk” for his violent outbursts, was jailed for life with a minimum of 21 years.

Judge Richard Mansell QC told him: “Danielle Richardson was a particularly vulnerable victim. At no stage did you stop to think of saving her. Having killed her you then set about trying to escape. Despite your heavily-intoxicated state, you had your wits about you.”

Marler, of Oldham, Greater Manchester, showed no emotion as he was sentenced. The judge said he had a shocking history of violence against Danielle. He also used a bar to assault the father of an ex-partner 16 years ago and once committed racially aggravated harassment against another ex-partner.

The court heard Danielle previously suffered a black eye and suspected fractured ribs but was persuaded by Marler not to press domestic violence charges.

Just five days before her death she called 999 after being attacked by him again.

The judge said Marler “cynically took advantage of the fact that Danielle was dead and unable to speak for herself” to paint a “wholly false picture” about their relationship. Stephen Meadowcroft QC, defending, said there was still a “degree of denial” by his client.

Outside court yesterday senior investigating officer Bob Tonge, of Greater Manchester Police, said: “Danielle was subjected to the most brutal attack at the hands of Marler.

“He showed nothing but rage as he relentlessly stabbed her body multiple times, leaving her with no chance of survival.

“Despite this terrifying and vicious attack, we know Danielle bravely tried to defend herself and fight for her life.

“The pain her family have had to endure since this day is heartbreaking. No family should ever be put through agony like this.”
