Bad start with Leeds over Vieira sale

-

Ronaldo, it’s because they can see he is a good player.

“The sale of Ronaldo has happened at the same time as an injury to another player. But we will solve this.

“I am not sure if another player will come in to replace Ronaldo or not. The situation is more complicated because Adam is out for six weeks so we have to take that into account.”

Bielsa, 63, arrived at Leeds with a reputation for an explosive temper and oddball behaviour. When he managed Newell’s Old Boys in his native Argentina, he once threatened a group of fans with a hand grenade when they turned up at his house to protest after a 6-0 defeat.

He also signed future Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino for Newell’s as a 13-year-old after visiting his parents’ house at 2am and getting their permission to measure his legs.

Both Pochettino and Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola have hailed Bielsa as the best coach in the world – because of his tactical ability and his record for improving players. And the former Argentina and Chile boss says he will throw everything at the Leeds job.

Speaking through an interpreter, he said: “I think I am in a place that is bigger than what I deserve. My goal is to show that I deserve the opportunity I have been given.

“Think about the manner needed to make this project successful, and about the big challenge I have this year, and you will easily understand that I can’t think about my future.

“It’s not my goal to please people. When I speak, I try not to lie. I try to tell the truth. But the goal is to face this challenge, which is a very exciting one.”

Bielsa likes his teams to play in an attractive, attacking style and is out to entertain the fans, while insisting he is being driven by passion rather than the size of his £6m-a-year pay packet.

He said: “Even if people think we work for money, football is a search for strong emotions.

“What you remember in football is emotions. You feel a lot better when you remember emotions than when you count money. I hope my work here will be full of emotions.”
