Mick resigned to go own way

-

FLEETWOOD MAC founder Mick Fleetwood has attempted to clarify the reasons behind Lindsey Buckingham’s sacking earlier this year – without actually shedding much light on the situation.

Discussing Lindsey’s departure after more than four decades touring with the group, Mick, 71, inset left, says: “Obviously this is a huge change with the advent of Lindsey Buckingham not being a part of Fleetwood Mac. We all wish him well and all the rest of it.

“In truthful language, we just weren’t happy and I’ll leave it at that in terms of the dynamic.”

Following his shock exit earlier this year Lindsey, inset right, who first parted company with the band in 1987 following an altercation with frontwoman Stevie Nicks, said: “This was not something that was my doing or my choice. What that did was to harm... and this is the only thing I’m really sad about... the 43-year legacy that we had worked so hard to build.”

Although the 68-year-old did admit that he had reached the end of the road with Fleetwood Mac, adding: “Not to hedge around but we arrived at the impasse of hitting a brick wall.”

Since the fallout Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell and Crowded House’s Neil Finn have been tasked with filling Lindsey’s shoes, which Mick thinks is a good thing. He said: “If you know anything about the history of this band it’s peppered with this type of dramatic stuff. It’s a strange band really. We’re just looking at a whole 18 months on-and-off of trekking around the world like we normally do and having fun.”
