Dettori can make it a weekend winner

- By The Scout

FRANKIE DETTORI, already with four winners in the bag at York this week, can land today’s feature at the track with WEEKENDER (3.40).

The John Gosden-trained fouryear-old faces a tough task under top weight in the Sky Bet Ebor Handicap but he is a class act.

On his latest outing he only failed by a neck to catch Marmelo in a Listed event over today’s course and distance.

Marmelo upheld the form when second in Group Two event behind Holdthasigreen at Deauville last Sunday.

Stratum, the favourite, commands respect coming from the Willie Mullins yard. But today he drops in trip which is a concern after his impressive success at Newbury over two miles in July.

A case can also be made for Nakeeta, last year’s winner, despite carrying 4lb more today. His trainer Ian Jardine believes he now has him back to his best after finishing a respectable fifth in last year’s Melbourne Cup.

Dettori can start the meeting on a winning note with EXPERT EYE (3.00, nap).

He lost nothing in defeat when chasing home Lightning Spear in the Group One Sussex Stakes over a mile at Goodwood earlier in the month.

Today the colt drops in both grade and distance which will enable him to take this prize at the expense of the consistent Suedois.

LORD GLITTERS (1.50), behind Expert Eye at Goodwood when finishing third, looks the answer in the opening Sky Bet And Symphony Strensall Stakes. At Goodwood BEAT THE BANK, who beat Lord Glitters at Ascot in July, gets the verdict in the Ladbrokes Celebration Mile. He has winning form on this unique track which will give him an edge on his rivals. His trainer Andrew Balding and jockey, Oisin Murphy, can make it a double with LOOK AROUND (2.40). She is a filly clearly progressing with every run.
