Heaton can hear pulse of his Hart beat

the Premier League. Dyche claims Burnley cannot match their rivals’ outlay because they must always be prudent.

“The financial model of football has gone,” said the Clarets boss, who spent a relatively modest £30m. “Most owners don’t care about that. They just run their club in a manner they choose to do. That’s fine and there’s no angle to that.

“This club don’t. They want to make sure not just the next month, but the next year, two, three years are looked after.

“It does get harder because the numbers keep going up and up. We have got to chase the numbers, not be in front of them. Look at what Brighton and Huddersfield are spending. If they are running away with the numbers, we have got to chase that.

“If the gap gets too big, then it becomes really difficult.”

Dyche has told Jonathan Walters he can leave if he can find a new club.

Walters, 34, has only made two starts since his £3m switch from Stoke last summer and tweeted: “I miss football” after Dyche omitted him from his squad for the Europa League qualifier in Athens.

The forward is very much on the fringes of Dyche’s first-team squad and the Burnley boss is prepared to let him follow Nahki Wells, who has joined QPR on loan, through the Turf Moor exit.

“He’s fit and well and he knows if anything comes available that suits him, that will be the key thing,” said Dyche. “He’s a wellrespected senior professional, so we wil make sure we respect him as well.”

Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic is urging captain Tom Cairney to become as influential for the club in the Premier League as he was in the Championship.

Cairney is one of only two survivors, along with defender Tim Ream, from Jokanovic’s first game in charge at Craven Cottage back in December 2015, and the manager said: “There is a great difference between Tom today and when we compare him back to two years and a half ago.

“But the learning process never stops and I still believe there exists a big opening for him to improve himself. He, like me and like his team-mates, needs to make another extra step.

“He has definitely improved but now there is another challenge in front of him. He cannot be satisfied. He needs to push himself to become an important player at a different level.
