Warnock rap for his dozy strikeforce

- By Rob Cole and Gary Carter

NEIL WARNOCK admits he wakes up wondering when Cardiff’s first goal will come.

The new boys are the only side yet to score and today head to Huddersfield, who have conceded more than anyone else this term.

“I wake up just thinking about goals and where they’re going to come from. It’s harder at the top level,” said Warnock, above.

“The worry is that we got into very good positions last week but it didn’t lead to anything. We had one or two good heading situations that were like a damp squib.”

Of the 22 shots in their opening two matches this season, only two have been on target, giving them a paltry nine per cent return in terms of shooting accuracy. Last season’s top scorer, midfielder Callum Paterson, did not feature last Saturday.

He scored 10 Championship goals, while Danish marksman Kenneth Zohore bagged nine.

“I don’t know my best striking option. Theoretically Zohore should be my main man. When he’s playing well he can score goals left, right and centre,” added Warnock.

“With all our wide players we can get crosses into the box. Either Ken learns more about heading or we can try someone else. Gary Madine has come back really well and lost a lot of weight and we’ve also got Danny Ward, who’s flying. I’ll have to try all of them.”

As for Huddersfield, midfielder Alex Pritchard has warned his side that Cardiff are more than just long-ball merchants.

“I’m expecting a physical game and people on social media are saying it’s must-win,” he said. “Cardiff are strong and in your face – but they’re in the Premier League for a reason.

“We watched their game against Newcastle when the ball was on the floor and they have quality. I played with Josh Murphy at Norwich and you’ve got to be careful because he’s so quick. Joe Ralls, Junior Hoilett and Kenneth Zohore also have quality.”
