the initial infection and each lump lasts a few weeks. As old ones heal, new ones may appear as the infection spreads.
This means that areas of molluscum spots may come and go for a long time and it may take 12-18 months before the last of the spots goes completely.
However, although the spots can look unsightly they rarely cause any other symptoms and as they go of their own accord, no treatment is usually required.
Squeezing them doesn’t help and can cause scarring so don’t be tempted to do this.
A solution containing potassium hydroxide is available from chemists. This is applied twice a day and may speed up the healing process, although initially can cause the spots to become red and inflamed.
Wart treatments such as podophyllotoxin and imiquimod can also be used but can cause burning so are not recommended for young children. I can’t find any evidence that colloidal silver spray works. If the spots are irritating her then applying a mild steroid cream can help and this is available on prescription for children from your GP.
